The NRF falls under the umbrella of Anti-Doping Norge (ADN) and the NIF who
between them are responsible for doping controls, tests, appeals and imposing sanctions.
Anti-Doping Norge conducted 8 random drug tests at the Bergen 7s tournament on 16th April.
The testing was across the board, and included 3 Senior Men, 3 Senior Ladies and 2 Juniors.
This was not a 'one-off'. Drug testing is now part of the rugby landscape and it is the responsibility of each
individual player to ensure that they don't take a banned substance.
Players with a documented medical condition (e.g. asthma or Type 1 diabetes) requiring the use of a
prohibited substance must first obtain a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
All applications should be sent to Medisinsk utvalg, who will then forward them to ADN.
If you are taking ANY medication, nasal sprays, ointments, eye drops, suppositories etc etc you need to check
they are not on ADN's List of Prohibited Substances.
A number of 'everyday' creams and ointments have recently been TAKEN OFF the banned list - although they are still
mentioned in the brochure that was handed out by ADN in Bergen. In particular:
Hydrokortison 1% - for treating mild eczema
Daktacort - for athletes' foot
Other substances that are particularly susceptible to unintentional rule violations include:
Some stimulants e.g. ephedrine
Cannabinoids
Inhaled Beta 2 angonists
Diuretics
Masking agents e.g. probenecid
Beta blockers
