Stockholm 10's

It had been a year since Stockholm had seen the Bergen Red Knuts in action. At 2030 hrs Friday night, the boys had prepared for the evening for many hours. Room 1611 was littered with accidental spillage and shame. Some of the boys were very excited to be back in Stockholm and did not leave the city centre until the early hours of the morning. A room service order by 1612 to 1611 made the morning even brighter for some.

The first game of the weekend was against Hammarby. It was a hard fought game and left the boys with nothing but a realization that not everyone came to Stockholm for its nightlife. The group winners, the Kamikaze touring side gave the Knuts their best game. The former BRK runner, Sam Hedger put 5 on the board with an intercept try from inside his own 22. Andre Jappi Van Niekerk enjoyed putting another 5 points on the board in the second half. In the last action of the game, Sam Hedger gave the Knuts their 3rd try of the tournament. A successful conversion ended the game with a Kamikaze win by 15. The most physical game of the tournament came at the end of day 1 agains French ASUB Lions. There some good tries scored, some good tackles made, and some kisses blown. Georgie Aird ran in the Knuts’ 4th try of the day, unfortunately it was not enough to save the day for the Bergen side. The last game left the Red Knuts battered and empty. Samuel Hedger was awarded 2 funnels while Jappi took one to the face. As the evening progressed, only 4 knuts made it to Stockholm for the evenings events.

By Sunday morning most people were well rested and awake. A shortage of forwards opened up the possibility of Andre Jappi to play second row and jump in the line out. After decoding the puzzle that is the 4 man line-out, Jappi decided it was time for him to try the jump. The first jump was such a breeze that even Victor Matfield would have been taking notes. Guest star player Adam Khalid Kayoom called Jappi in for another jump and the strangest moment in rugby history occurred. A perplexed Jappi ran to the back of the line out and jumped facing the wrong way. See my amazing drawing.

A late Nathan Begley let Hanro Van Wyk make a cameo appearance for the Knuts. As quickly as he came on, he went back off with knee problems. Even though it was a short game for Hanro, he played well. Maddies Prospects, caught a distracted Bergen Red Knuts side asleep and then they capitalized. The Knuts’ manager, Robert Grant, gave his best performance at the end of tournament party where he did not only start a dance off, but also invent a new dance. Nathan Begley single-handedly made sure that the Bergen Red Knuts had a win over the weekend by blowing people away with his breathtaking moves. The Knuts would like to thank Neil, Nathan, Shelton, Miko, Jarna, Juhani and Khalid for joining us this weekend. It was a great time and next year’s tournament will be no different!
