BRK-SRK 2006

13rd of May by pamplemousse

NOTE: "rock" in french means "ruck" in English ...

Final score : 17-13

After the defeat against BSI in the opening game of the season, BRK doesn't have the possibility to lose any other game. With some of his most experienced players away or injured (Karl, Willie, ...), Bergen knew it was not going to be an easy game against Stavanger.

Our fear was confirmed after the first twenty minutes : Stavanger was leading 8-0 after a penalty and a try. That was well-deserved : Bergen was totally under the domination of the Stavanger's forwards. However, little by little, Bergen managed to get some balls and to play in the Stavanger's half. After spending some minutes in their 22, mauling and rocking, Bergen finally decided to use the backline. Smooth pass from Dave Bourne to David Hume who managed to score despite the desesperate attempt of the Stavanger's fly-half to stop him. The poor guy should have known that you can't stop a Dave Hume with the ball when he is so closed to the tryline... It was time to score as the ref, Dave Benjamin, blew half-time just after Tim's attempt to convert the try.

Second half was totally black and red. Bergen had the ball most of the time and camped in the Stavanger's 22 and after 156 rocks in the Stavanger tryline, Hanro van Pølse finally managed to find a small gap in the Stavanger's defense and scored.

After some small incidents where Stavanger received two yellow and Bergen one (Hanro), Bergen scored a last try by Dave Bourne, intercepting a ball right under the Stavanger's posts. Thanks for the points.

Last try from Stavanger during the extra-time didn't change anything. A good and solid victory for Bergen but it showed to the klubb that a lot of work has still to be done if the team wants to compete against better teams as we are supposed to face the coming months.

Special mentions to Martin and Paddy who played their first game for the klubb.
Mention to Gaute who came back after a two years injury.
Mention to Kjartan who did very well against Alex Wilson in the scrum.
Mention to Dave Bourne, coming from Australia just to play for BRK (well, almost...)
And finally, a mention to all the substitutes who didn't come in. Sure, they will have a full game against SRK in three weeks for the BSI-SRK game.
