MATCH REPORT: BRK Sevens 2006

8 May 2006
by Krissy

Place: Stemmemyren Kunstgress

Bergen 7s lost its status as a part of the NM series and as a result had fewer entries than last year. The tournament also clashed with the U18s national team trip to EM in Treviso, which affected entries from junior teams.

Six mens teams entered (BRK 1, BSI/BRK 2, ECB, UMB, Glommen, and Oslo), BRK women split into two teams, and juniors from Ravnanger/Bergen (and borrowed players) played against ISS. The men played in two pools, with winners of each pool playing 2nd ranked teams in semi finals, the losers of each pool each played each other in “wooden spoon final”. The winners of the men’s final was ECB, who beat BRK 20-19.

The highlight of the day had to be the 10s game played by the BRK ladies versus the junior boys. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed playing (and watching). The juniors beat the girls 39 – 7.

Another highlight - for the men's team - was the debut of BRK's new winger, Evan, scoring a number of tries in the tournament with pace seldom seen on BRK's wings these days.

Despite the usual grazes/kunstgress burns, there were no serious injuries during the tournament. We thank Norsk Folkehjelp for their assistance.

The Bergen committee would like to thank the referees (Charles Bromley-Gardner, David Benjamin, Greg Coombes, and referee observer Paul Winson), all those who helped on the day and the teams that took part.
