Arrival
Bergen was represented by 10 senior and 10 junior players in what will now be annual fixture on the rugbyschedule - East coast V West coast. The first of the two yearly encounters was to be played in Tønsberg and fittingly, for the Bergen contingent, we were greeted by light drizzle upon arrival.

Juniors
Firstly, the junior Bergen players combined with players from Stavanger and Kristiansand to form the West side in what was the first 15-a-side match for many of our boys. They all adapted well and managed to secure a tight victory 36-35 in what was a very entertaining game. Bergen were represented by boys selected from
some of the region's best players and are students at Fjell, Ravnanger and Gimle schools. The Bergen representatives were Johannes Giske, Erland Brunborg, Stian Zakkarriasen, Chris Robert Vallestad, Alex "Klager" Bertilsen, Morten Skår, Håkon Kristoffersen, Remi Sørde Rossvoll, Kent Jøran Eide, Kevin Connor.

Seniors
Shortly after the men were to have their crack at finding out which coast of Norway could lay claim to top rugby honours. And with 11 international players in the run-on side the West was confident of a strong showing. However, within 15 minutes of the opening kick-off we were left wondering if the trip across the mountain was a wise one with the East establishing a 18-5 point lead on the back of some tough forward play. However, after some calming words from captain Hanro van Pølse the West managed to form some cohesive attack and counter-attacks which led to two late first half-tries. With one half gone the ledger read 18-15 East's way in what had been a physical but rather scrappy first 40 minutes.

With much at stake and the words of team manager Dave Ukich ringing in their ears, the West side immediately took the lead and control of the match. What followed was some wonderfully free-flowing rugby with backs linking with forwards to run the East off their feet. At the final whistle the score of 53-18 included six second-half tries and also amazingly 48 unanswered points in the last 60 minutes of the match. It was truly a victory to remember and was built on the back of quick forward ball coupled with some hard and straight running out wide and finished with good support from all players. In particular the efforts of the wingers and fullback - three Stavanger youngsters Arnaud Vivet, Will Bickford and Alex - served as inspiration to the squad as they continued to run at and around their much older and larger opponents. Also the tireless work of the international backrow of flankers David Hume and Kristoffer Borsheim and No. 8 Willie Wilson ensured balled was retained, tackles were made when it counted and support was on hand. Surging runs from lock Stian Røstberg also created the go-forward necessary.

Takker
Thanks must go to manager/coach/physio/hair stylist Dave Ukich for his words of encouragement as well as to Herve for his organisation and team selection. Also to Roger Yttervik from host club Tønsberg for organising the whole day's program and evening's festivities as well. The West coast looks forward to hosting the second Super 2 event on September 10.
