HORTEN 10'S 2005

20th of August by Hamish Esplin

Golden Year continues in Tønsberg

The first 10s tournament of the season played host to another victory for the BRK mens team continuing on from their clean sweep of the 7s tournament held earlier in the year. Pitching a strong, if not slightly injury-prone side, BRK enjoyed a patchy first-up victory over Trondheim four tries to nil before sneaking away with a last-minute victory over Oslo in the second pool game to ensure the top spot. With barely enough time for one play left Politimann Kjell made a decisive break before slipping a neat pass to Snusmann Stian to stroll over to record a tight 14-12 victory.

A more polished performance in the semi-final against Stavanger ended with a five try to one win before a tough final against old foes East Coast Barbarians. With a more calmed approached and with combinations finally starting to gel an early Hanro van Pølse try ensured a strong start. However, a long ECB break left the score at 7-7 with halftime looming. With some committed defence and a little luck BRK managed to post three more tries through Willie Willie McWillie Wilson, Amish and bus driver Eirik, whose palm off to burst past the hapless ECB defence was truly one to savour.

A final score, marred only by some dangerous opposition play (click here for a clip of a senseless idiotic tackle on Dave - picture on the R), ended 24-7 Bergen's way. The forward pack, in particular, played well to give the backs enough room to work some magic. A final victory at the Trondheim 10s would give BRK men a cleansweep of all the tournaments this year.

In the womens section, the BRK girls enjoyed victories over a combined eastern side in two of the three matches before succumbing to tiredness and a general lack of fitness (the men, of course, are all model athletes) in the last match going down 15-14

The junior boys also equipped themselves well in their matches against sides from Stavanger, Kongsberg and Fossen eventually running away with the bronze medals.
