Hordaland's Inaugural Indoor Junior Tournament

Last Saturday the first ever Junior rugby Kretsmesterskap in Hordaland was held in Askøy forum and what a day it turned out to be. Seven boys teams and two girls teams of teenagers participated in front of an impressive, if not slightly amazed, crowd of over 100 fairly new rugby enthusiasts.

The day was the brainchild of Hordaland Regional Development Officer Karl Frisch who had been teaching numerous schools around Hordaland an adapted a 6-a-side version of contact rugby to be played on indoor Handball courts.

With plenty of seering runs and bruising hits the standard of play was very high throughout the day. The boys and girls of local Bergen and Hordaland schools took to the modified scrums and lineouts with such eagerness and skill that left many old Bergen Rugby Klubb spectators suitably impressed (if not slightly concerned that there positions on the team might be in doubt in the near future).

So with the final whistle blowing the following standings were achieved leaving Ravnanger School on Askøy as the first Hordaland Junior rugby champions.
