Report from Bjørnarhallen, Arna

by Hawkeye

13 players, 1 ref, 1 commentator and 3 spectators made the trip to Bjørnarhallen in Arna, yes I known, it's Haakons domene. Rugby was apparently being the interval entertainment in an exciting handball game between Bjørnar and Byåsen. The BSI and BRK boys had made arrangements to make sure they would play fast flowing rugby that would baffle the unexpecting crowd. Haakon made his best explaining the rules of rugby, as well as sharing some of the exciting developments of rugby throughout the ages, like the story behind the try and conversion. The boys played approximately 2x5min. It was a entizing show were the advantage rule was frequently being used to make sure the crowd got their moneys worth.

After a well played performance, the boys received a good round of applaus. Never before have rugby been played publicly in Arna, set aside Haakons attempt to toss the ball around his parents backyard. I'm sure that we stirred a few minds. After the boys had changed, Bjørnar gave us all a round of waffels and coffee, to the boys great delight.

All in all, it was a great sunday evening. What better way to spread the gospel of rugby, than with fast flowing rugby and with the rules explained by a commentator, and top it off afterwards by waffels and coffee. We were told we were welcome to come back to Arna, and the girls will give a good performance on the 3. of April. I think we all enjoyed playing and hoping we can come back at later opportunities to teach the gospel of rugby to "Arnabuarane".

Haakon

What's that dribbling down the commentator's legs?
