BRK/BSI RUGBY JULEBORD 2004[04-12-2004]
In what was a fitting end to a very successful season, over 70 players, partners, fans and rugby enthusiasts attended the 2004 BRK Julebord. The night always seemed like it was going to be rather large with the first offerings of champagne at the pleasant surroundings of the NRK canteen. And what a night it was, if only the memory wasn't a little bit hazy. Under the direction of Paul "Winnie" Winson, the night erupted with the usual small talk and excuses about why one hadn't been to training in three months, before progressing onto the formalities of the evening - the prizes. With the BRK men's and ladies teams claiming every piece of silverware on offer this year, and the students team, BSI, finishing a close fourth, the competition for three inch high pieces of gold plastic was hot. With seven prizes up for grabs players became noticeably fidgety whenever an award for their side was to be announced. In what was a strong indication of the growth of rugby in this corner of the world, the seven players who walked off with the spoils had never won an award between them (truly a surprise given the repetitiveness of recent years). So, once the petrol (Norwegians like to call aquavit) was downed and the Tool Awards for the year's most stupid/embarrassing/amusing incidents were announced, the chairs and tables were pushed back and the real action of the night began on the dance floor. With the loss of watches, house keys, some pride and a lot of dignity the night can thus be called a successful one. Thanks must go to the chief organizer Camilla Otterlei for doing the organizing, her helpers for helping, MC Winnie for being MC and Foxy for being foxy and helping with the venue.
