MATCH REPORT: BRK vs. BSI 2004
Final Score 40-10

21st August 2004

On what started as a surprisingly bleak and wintry day, the BRK and BSI sides welcomed each other for a home game at the pleasant surrounds of Fana Stadion. The intensity was always going to be fierce with NM points up for grabs, reputations on the line and a chance to smash that bloke who always steals your water bottle at training.

Both teams eased their way into the match with the BRK midfield and loose forwards in particular looking threatening. Indeed with 10 minutes gone on the wristwatch of the fitness-challenged referee BRK managed to find an extra man out wide after a strong build up over half a dozen phases to notch the first points of the match. Strong running from BRK gentle giant and No. 8 Stian and slick handling from the youthful BRK inside backs, Tim and Christian, led to three more tries in a well contested first half.

Some stiffer BSI forward play in the second half led them to draw first blood (literally in Dave's case) with BRK allowing the opposition backrow too much room to move giving Willie a chance to land a five-pointer - something every player on both sides usually regrets hours later in the pub. However, sensing he hadn't quite struck enough fear in the opposition, Stian decided to break a few tackles and run 60m to put BRK back on the right foot.

Shortly after a well rehearsed backrow move ended with Percy scooping a low pass off his shoelaces to dive over in the corner and all but seal the victory. A few late tries to both sides rounded out what was a very enjoyable day of rugby and one which left all members of the crowd thrilled (I know this because I asked both of them).

As the sun began to decline and players began to dream of cold beers, the match ended with BRK emerging deserved winners 40-10. Man of the match was Stian (have I mentioned him enough in this report) and both sides will now send a team to contest the final leg of the national 7s competition in Trondheim this weekend.
